Arvind Kejriwal Calls For CBI Probe Into Punjab's Spurious Liquor Deaths

Arvind Kejriwal stated no latest illicit liquor case has been solved by the Punjab police.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal — whose Aam Aadmi Occasion is a part of the opposition in Congress-ruled Punjab — has demanded a CBI investigation into the hooch tragedy within the state which has claimed 86 lives. “The case needs to be handed over to CBI instantly as not one of the illicit liquor instances from the previous few months have been solved by native police,” he tweeted.

The deaths resulting from spurious liquor began on Wednesday throughout three districts of the state. Sixty-three of the deaths had been reported from Tarn Taran district, 12 in Amritsar and 11 in Gurdaspur’s Batala. On Saturday, 48 extra individuals died.

“Saddened by the lack of lives in Punjab resulting from illicit liquor. State govt wants to right away take vital steps to curb such mafias,” Mr Kejriwal tweeted.

The state authorities has suspended seven officers from the excise division and 6 law enforcement officials.

Altogether, 25 individuals have been arrested amid calls for for the resignation of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.

Sukhbir Badal, the chief of the opposition Shiromani Akali Dal, referred to as it “homicide” perpetrated by the ministers and MLAs of the ruling Congress.
