A 27-year-old man from Mumbai has earned eye-popping Rs 49.14 lakh by promoting banned gutkha and different tobacco merchandise through the lockdown interval, police stated on Saturday.

Police additionally seized gutkha value Rs 5.53 lakh from the arrested accused Rakesh Kumar Gupta, a resident of suburban Mankhurd, throughout a raid on Friday, a criminal offense department official stated.

Sale of tobacco and associated merchandise stays banned through the lockdown beneath the Catastrophe Administration Act 2005.

“Police discovered big money and numerous tobacco substances, which have been stocked to sale at increased costs, with Gupta. He was attempting to flee to his residence state Uttar Pradesh, however we foiled his bid,” the official stated.

Mr Gupta advised us that he had earned Rs 49.14 lakh by promoting gutkha and different tobacco-related merchandise at a better worth through the interval of lockdown, the official stated.

Mr Gupta had been charged on related costs earlier by Mankhurd Police.
